We can't believe 7 months have passed since our last post, wow, the wonderful world of wood finishes is non stop. It's been a good few months of steady if unspectacular business but we're not complaining in this climate.

New products include our own Hardwax Oil which we hope to launch properly with in the next month and Aquacoat SP Dead Flatt Matt which is gaining mo

mentum. On top of this we've seen a big increase in our demand for shade matching which has managed to secure a few good contracts, Drew, our technical whizzkid, is a master at getting the matches bang on.

Coming months see new developments with our website and increasing our presence through social media. Why not follow us on twitter Smith_Rodger.

We'll make sure the blog is updated far more regularly and hopefully we can get more followers.

December 2010 will go down in history!
It's now been nearly been 4 weeks since we last saw grass up here and in the intervening time Scotland ground to a halt at the worst possible time for retailers.
For the first time in memory the main arterial road between Edinburgh and Glasgow, the M8, was closed for 48 hours causing mayhem for thousands.
A knock on effect was our inability to supply customers throughout the UK. Citylink couriers would not collect any consignments from the 6th through to the 13th December! We would like to apologise to any customers that have been inconvenienced by our service. I am hopeful that this sequence of events will not happen for many years to come but a lesson has been learnt and other courier firms are now being sought in order that we have alternatives.

We would also like to thank all our customers for your business in 2010 and wish you a Happy Christmas and an enjoyable New Year. Here's to a prosperous 2011...and lots of changes at smitrod.

Our Managing Director Ian McAslan became a father for the first time on 7th September 2010. Alice Elizabeth Mary was born at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary and weighed in at 5lbs 7oz.

Osmo UV Protection Oil - Test Results Nov'09

After nine months of being exposed to all that Glasgow's weather can throw at them, we've brought the sample pieces of oak back inside to look at the results. The piece on the left had two coats of Osmo UV Protection Oil Extra applied which was left for 18 hours between coats. The piece on the right was not treated with anything.

As you can see the treated piece of oak on the left has retained both it's colour and finish. Being a microporous finish the wood has been able to expand and contract in differing climates which has also prevented it from cracking or peeling.

In our opinion this is by far the best clear exterior finish we have found, so much so that we are now confidently recommending and supplying it through our online shop.
